About the Vernal Education Project

vernal adj. 1. of, relating to, or occurring in the spring. 2. fresh or new like the spring.

The Vernal Education Project was an attempt to create a comprehensive education and support network that could bolster and sustain grassroots progressive social change movements in the United States. The project was proposed in the 2001 book Inciting Democracy: A Practical Proposal for Creating a Good Society by Randy Schutt.

The project sought to create a network of 50 educational centers around the United States, each of which would facilitate a one-year program on progressive social change for 120 students every year. The project was, unfortunately, announced on the day before the 9-11 terrorist attacks in 2001 which meant it was not able to garner much attention. The project did attract some interest but not enough to actually launch it.
